-March update-

Although temperatures are warming as is normal for March in Iowa, I have my hopes up that spring is just around the corner.  Iowa Test of Basic Skills ahead March 15, 2010 to March 19, 2010.  So, the 1st day of spring must just be a few weeks away.

Fremont’s teachers have been learning about the statewide mandated Iowa Core Curriculum.  It is a state level effort to improve teaching and learning, ensuring that all Iowa students engage in rigorous and relevant experiences in our schools.  This is what Fremont has and will continue to be about – Students, Teachers, and Community working together to be recognized as one of the best districts in Iowa.  The Iowa Core defines the most critical learning for all students across the state.

Our District Leadership Team comprised of K-8 teachers and administrators has been involved in leadership training for the past 2 years.  This team will be integral in leading our teachers through the vast amount of information to take in, make sense of, and incorporate into our classrooms.  This effort is a joint venture of teachers, administrators, Area Education Agency support and state guidance from the Iowa Department of Education.  Stay tuned for additional information over the coming months as our district continues to explore, becomes knowledgeable, and begins to implement the Iowa Core Curriculum into every classroom for all students.  The Iowa Department of Education also has a website where the public can access the content piece of the Iowa Core Curriculum:  www.corecurriculum.iowa.gov.
